In the midst of our current upheaval and chaos, my question to you is: How will you remind yourself and others of what is most important, of what we value, of what is worth fighting for? How will you offer comfort and hope?
Storytellers are historians, documentarians, and truth-tellers, and storytelling is the torch we should all help carry, to keep our creativity and joy alive.
My goal for this workshop is to help you craft a story about something meaningful in your life. You will have time to pay attention and possibly learn why it is meaningful to you, and then how to build on it. Although the story will be about you and your life, we’re also doing much larger work for our families, friends, communities, and culture. Stories are a gift to us all.
This event is for you if:
You’ve been to storytelling events but never shared a story
You want to know how to do that!
You want to gain insight, share a personal perspective, and make connections with other people
What will the class be like?
After a brief warm-up exercise to get to know one another, we will do step-by-step exercises to trigger and retrieve a memory, hook it to the thoughts and emotions you had at the time, and then expand it into a story you can share with others.
You will have time to think and write your ideas, later refining them into a cohesive narrative. Finally, you will have the option to share your crafted story with a partner or with the whole group. You also will be ready for our next Wine & Story night in August!
Attendees should come prepared to write, either with a pen and notebook or a laptop.
Suggested donation for the class is $15.
If you want to change the world, you have to change the story.
