Lazarus White, tasting room manager

Lake Champlain has always been a special place to me. My childhood summers were spent taking weekend trips up to South Hero from Massachusetts. Growing up on a farm in the middle of the woods, I have always had a strong connection with nature, which fully blossomed while studying Henry David Thoreau in high school.

My interest in the natural world led me to pursue a Farm and Food Systems degree at Greenfield Community College, learning about soil science, ecology, permaculture design/management, and our food system. Between semesters, I returned to the lake. Living with friends in Burlington, I worked behind the tasting room bar, and completed a vineyard internship alongside Ethan and the vineyard staff. Seeing the connection between tending to the vines, and pouring our wines sparked a serious interest in wine.

The day after I received my diploma, I embarked on a cross-country road trip in search of a new home in a new wine region. Making it to the California coast, and back, I knew where my home was, and returned to Vermont.
